For the last months, I’ve been working on a project that could be any science communicator’s dream.
The Life A Mar Natura 2000 project was born from the desire to enhance the value of the marine areas of the Natura 2000 Network, transforming them into well-known sites of public interest, whose uses and activities are compatible with their conservation.
To this end, the project carries out navigation campaigns in Italy and Spain consisting of visits to Natura 2000 Network sites, accompanied by specific outreach days, press events, participatory meetings, and guided tours of natural environments. Residents, tourists, guides, and experts, among others, participate in these activities to showcase the richness of these protected marine areas.
In Spain, we carried out our sailing campaign aboard a sailing boat between May and June this year, visiting eight areas of the Natura 2000 marine network in the Spanish Mediterranean, including: Cabo de Palos, Xábia, Formentera, Ibiza, Mallorca, L’Estartit, the Ebro Delta, and Cabo de Gata.
We enjoyed it a lot and learned how important it is to be in contact with people to convey them how important the sea is in our lives. I feel very proud to be part of such group, with people who put their values first.
